St Gregory’s Minster

St Gregory’s Minster – The church of the deserted Domesday settlement of
Welburn : This is a detailed investigation by David Brewer into the history of the
ancient townships of Welburn, Houeton and Walton, near Kirkbymoorside and their
disappearance from records following the 12th century charters gifting the lands to the
Abbey at Rievaulx. How the church known as St Gregory’s, became isolated in a
valley later called Kirkdale and the importance of the church of Kirkbymoorside.
